FT. LAUDERDALE, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 02/09/10 -- Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., a diversified commercial law firm with more than 130 attorneys in 13 Florida offices, New York City, New Jersey, Nassau (Bahamas) and Prague, today announced that the firm's shareholders elected shareholders Yolanda Cash Jackson and Rosa M. de la Camara to the Management Committee, which determines the strategic direction and oversees management and operations of the firm.
Ms. Jackson, an experienced Government Law attorney and lobbyist, and Ms. de La Camara, who concentrates her practice in Community Association Law, are the first women ever elected to the seven-member committee. The appointments were effective January 20, 2010.
"Rosa and Yolanda have consistently demonstrated highly effective leadership in the firm including serving as Chairs of the firm's diversity and women's initiatives," said Alan Becker, managing partner. "Their selection recognizes the significant contribution of both attorneys to the firm's growth and development and their deep involvement in firm-wide strategic issues over many years."
Ms. Jackson, who joined the firm in 1999, heads the Tallahassee lobbying practice with a proficiency in state government funding and appropriations. She has established a strong reputation for involvement in civic, charitable and professional organizations and currently is an active member of the Orange Bowl Committee, The Carrie Meek Foundation, the Greater Miami Chapter of the Links, Inc. and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. de la Camara, who works with the firm's large community association client base, has immersed herself in the many complex issues facing Boards of Directors, unit owners, managers and state and local policymakers. In 2008, she was appointed by the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives to the Florida Community Association Living Council whose role is to receive public input regarding issues of concern with respect to community living and make recommendations for legislative changes to the Florida Legislature.
Ms. de la Camara also was a member of the Florida Advisory Council on Condominiums, the liaison between the public and the Division of Florida Land Sales and Condominiums.
Ms. Jackson received her BS and JD degrees from the University of Florida and is a member of the School's College of Law Board of Trustees. Ms. de la Camara, a graduate of Florida International University, earned her JD degree from the University of Miami, joining Becker & Poliakoff in 1987.
